Finding and Fixing Website Security Vulnerabilities
A security engagement that scans websites, prioritizes the vulnerabilities found and closes them one by one.
- Security scan
- Hardening
- SSL
The problem
The sites had outdated plugins, unpatched software and misconfigured server settings. Any of these could lead to a takeover, a data leak or a "dangerous site" warning in search engines.
What I did
- Ran security scans on the sites and servers and listed outdated versions, open ports, weak settings and known vulnerabilities.
- Ranked the findings by risk and closed them starting with the most critical.
- Updated software, plugins and dependencies, and removed unused ones.
- Protected forms and login areas against abuse and restricted access to admin panels.
- Fixed SSL/TLS settings and security headers, and hardened the server.
- Set up regular backups and update tracking, and delivered a clear report of what was done.
The result
Known vulnerabilities are closed and the sites are up to date and monitored. If something goes wrong, they can be restored from backup quickly.
